- Rain garden
The garden you see when you come into the parking lot at Covenant is a rain garden. Planted with native plants after the addition was done, it is made to retain the water that runs off of the church building on the property and move it into the ground instead of into the sewer system. This helps to take pressure off of the lakes when we have storms and replenishes our ground water, which is retreating with all of our demands on it. Madison is like a great big bowl with all of the drainage from our yards and the church going into the lakes. This rain garden helps to improve the ecosystem by keeping some of this building's water runoff where it belongs. It is small compared to what the roof area of the building really demands; we could easily have enough runoff for several more of these the same size as this one. Its flowers also attract butterflies and birds, reminding us of how beautiful and complex God's creation is. - Bicycle racks available
