PC(USA) Pentecost Offering
On Pentecost Sunday, May 23, Covenant will collect a special offering to support the PC(USA) and a local mission partner. 40% of all money designated to the Pentecost Offering will go to Briarpatch Youth Services, a nonprofit organization celebrating its 50th anniversary. It offers a broad array of services to runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth ages 12-17.
For many years Covenant has supported this unique program, which serves about 3,000 youth annually. Their new shelter on Rimrock Road (built in 2015) can house up to eight children each night, but there are about 300 homeless youth each night in Dane County. Briarpatch offers individual counseling to these young people, and throughout 2020, 56 youth received shelter for a total of 557 nights of safe housing. Their staff of 27 counselors provides crucial help for these children in need, working to connect them with their families of origin and to mediate conflict or, if not possible, to find alternative housing and arrange for their schooling. They also run a youth job center, helping their clients find gainful employment. They support good kids in bad situations, and the help we can provide will give the tools they need to flourish.
We hope you will consider supporting Briarpatch with your offering on Pentecost. The remaining 60% of funds is used by the PC(USA) to support children-at-risk, youth, and young adults through ministries of the Presbyterian Mission Agency.
